Tips for getting a scholarship

You have found the college of your dreams and now you need to start locating ways to pay for your education. Scholarships are a great way to finance your education and can be obtained by keeping a few things in mind.
It is important to start looking for and applying for scholarships early. Many have specific deadlines so be sure to make note of these so you do not miss out on an opportunity. Make it a priority to search in your local area, various businesses and organizations offer scholarships to students from schools in their area. There will be less competition for these as there is less applicants. Check for school specific types of scholarships, this in itself could play a part in helping narrow down your college selection if needed. It is also important to check with your school counselor as they are a great source of information for anything scholarship related.

Read the requirements and follow the instructions very carefully. One minor mistake can disqualify you immediately. If you have a question about the application it is important you ask as an error could cause your application to be denied. It is important to proofread and be sure the packaging appears neat. Sending the application via certified mail will also make your application appear more professional.

It is important to stay active and involved in school activities and the community. Clubs and sports involvement will always increase your chance at a scholarship opportunity. Not only do various organizations and schools give away awards for certain activities but general scholarships also take in consideration how involved you have been. Finally, it is important to maintain your GPA.
